Scott R. Baker
Scott R. Baker is a novelist and arts and higher education advocate whose work explores creative community and belonging. He recently completed his debut novel, The Graceful Groundling, and is at work on his next project, sparked during a Kenyon Review workshop.
A Kenyon College graduate (Drama ’94), Scott spent nearly a decade directing Alumni and Parent Engagement at his alma mater, producing signature initiatives including the $300 million Our Path Forward campaign kickoff and the 50th Anniversary of Coeducation celebration. Earlier in his career, he founded Baker Street Communications, a digital design firm whose clients included the television series Jack Hanna’s Animal Adventures.
He has served as Vice President of the Toledo Opera Board and co-founded ViVA: Virtual Visiting Artists, a pandemic-era platform connecting artists with audiences. A longtime advocate for LGBTQ+ equality, he worked with Ohioans for Growth & Equality during the state’s fight against anti-marriage legislation.
A lifelong performer, Scott has sung roles including Jamie in The Last Five Years (Toledo Rep) and performed Verdi’s Requiem with an international chorus in Bulgaria. He lives in Gambier, Ohio, with his husband Marc and their two Tibetan Terriers, where he sings in the Kenyon College Community Choir.
